Our Story

Urban City Divers was founded in early 2024 with a mission to create a water adventure, and safety training centre right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Drawing from years of experience in the dive and entertainment industries, Sharifah Sofia—an actress, celebrity, and Reef Check Ambassador—launched this centre with a commitment to inclusivity, sustainability, and community engagement.


More than just a dive centre, Urban City Divers is also a Water Safety Training Centre, offering essential training in lifeguarding, CPR & AED certification, and water survival skills alongside our scuba diving, mermaid courses, and corporate team-building programmes. Whether it’s through our innovative mermaid courses, scuba diving experiences, or sustainability initiatives, we strive to offer more than just lessons—we create experiences that build confidence, awareness, and a deep connection to the environment.


Urban City Divers is also home to the KL Water Activity & Rescue Club (KLWARC), a community-driven initiative focused on water safety, adventure, and conservation. KLWARC brings together divers, lifeguards, mermaids, and eco-conscious individuals to promote water accessibility, safety training, and sustainable ocean practices.

Sharifah Sofia

Sharifah Sofia is the visionary behind Urban City Divers, combining her lifelong passion for the ocean with over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry and environmental advocacy. As a certified diver since the age of 16, Sofia’s love for the underwater world has always been a source of tranquility and inspiration.
In addition to her role as a professional actress, Sofia has dedicated herself to environmental sustainability, serving as an ambassador for Reef Check Malaysia and collaborating with numerous conservation initiatives. Through Urban City Divers, she aims to blend her passion for diving with her commitment to creating a more sustainable world, inviting everyone—from first-timers to seasoned divers—to explore, learn, and protect the beauty beneath the waves.

Ng Ser Ling

Ng Ser Ling, fondly known as “Mermaid,” is the founder of Merveille League Enterprise (MLE), a premier mermaid swim academy established in 2020. As Malaysia’s youngest PADI-certified mermaid instructor trainer, Ser Ling brings unparalleled expertise and passion to the mermaiding world. Her leadership skills are recognized globally, as she was selected as one of the ten Team Leads for the PADI Mermaid Team, underscoring her dedication and influence in the mermaiding community.

Tam Si Qian

Tam Si Qian is the founder of QLSwim, with extensive experience and expertise in swim and dive instruction. He is a certified Swim Instructor Trainer and PADI Dive Instructor, holding multiple qualifications, including SSI Swim Teacher Instructor, SSI Swim Teacher for Baby to Adult, ILS (International Life Saving), PADI Mermaid Instructor, and EFR Instructor. His diverse skill set and commitment to water safety and education have established him as a respected leader in the aquatic community.

Aloy (Gajah Lompat)

Aloy is a dedicated freediving instructor and an expert in underwater photography, capturing the beauty of mermaids, freedivers, and scuba divers across the world. With a passion for the ocean and a deep understanding of breath-hold techniques, he specialises in freediving base training, helping students build strength, endurance, and confidence in the water.

When he's not training new divers, Aloy is traveling to breathtaking dive sites, documenting the grace and power of underwater movement through his photography. At Urban City Divers, he combines his technical expertise, creative eye, and coaching skills to help students push their limits and develop a true connection with the ocean.

Nestled in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Urban City Divers operates within a unique setting that blends history with modern-day adventure. Our dive centre is located at Combat Base, a space once home to the TUDM (Royal Malaysian Air Force) Recreational Club. This historic pool, once a hub for Malaysia’s military personnel, has been transformed into a premier training ground for divers, swimmers, and mermaids alike.

Now part of KL Base, the facility carries on the legacy of resilience and discipline, while embracing our commitment to water-based education and environmental sustainability. The pool itself offers a serene and safe environment, perfect for learning to dive, swim, or embark on your next underwater adventure.
